Japanese flowering quince

Japanese flowering quince blooms on old wood in late winter to early spring in shades of red, pink, orange or white depending on cultivar, often while the branches are still otherwise bare. It suckers readily from the base, which needs managing, and sets small, hard, fragrant fruit if flowers are left to set.
