Removing wire without scarring

Unwinding wire the way it went on looks tidy, but on a branch that has thickened even a little it drags against bark that has grown around the coils, and that drag is what scars. Cut instead: snip each wrap with a wire cutter close to the branch and lift the piece away, never unwind. It costs a length of wire every time; it costs nothing in bark. Work from the tip toward the trunk, supporting the branch as you go so a suddenly-free section does not spring back and split.
